U.S. President Trump will convene senior executives from major global miners at
the State Department on Aug. 7 to secure supplies of critical minerals for the
U.S. and its allies. Reuters reported Washington urgently needs such minerals to
replenish weapons stocks depleted during the Iran conflict. Expected
participants include Rio Tinto, BHP, Freeport-McMoRan, MP Materials, Energy
Fuels and Canadian metals firms. Sources say the administration plans to
announce several commercial deals and memorandums of understanding.
