Elisabeth Kendall, principal of Girton College, Cambridge, and a Middle East expert, said the recent attacks could very well push Yemen into a wider war. This comes after Houthi rebels launched missiles and drones at military targets in Yemen on Thursday, killing at least 30 government soldiers and wounding 15, the first such attack in years. The Yemeni civil war has never truly ended. She pointed out that although there has been a ceasefire since 2022, "the ceasefire has effectively expired." She stated that the troop movements and clashes in recent months mean "all the warning signs have appeared." Kendall believes that one positive factor for the internationally recognized Yemeni government is that its forces are more united than in recent years after the conflict in January and subsequent integration efforts.
