The Pentagon, citing ammunition shortages tied to the conflict with Iran, has
asked U.S. defense contractors to accelerate weapons deliveries and expand
capacity. Deputy Defense Department leadership on Aug. 5 told industry chiefs to
submit plans within 21 days to sharply speed deliveries, increase output of
critical systems, and propose specific capital-investment and facility-expansion
measures to compress multi-year development cycles. DoD spokesman Sean Parnell
confirmed the memo's authenticity. A senior U.S. commander warned Pentagon
Munition stocks have fallen to "dangerously low" levels.
