Chief Executive John Lee said the Hong Kong government aims to publish the
city’s first five-year plan in Q3 this year. Lee reiterated a policy focus on
expanding the property ladder and said the Northern Metropolis development will
provide more space and improve living conditions. The public housing waiting
list has fallen from a peak of about 150,000 to roughly 100,000—a one-third
decline—the government attributes this to large-scale construction of public
rental housing and Home Ownership Scheme (HOS) units.
