EU climate-monitoring agency Copernicus Climate Change Service said July global
sea surface temperatures hit a record for the month. Average sea surface
temperature across non-polar oceans between 60°N and 60°S reached 20.96°C, above
the July 2023 record of 20.89°C. Widespread positive SST anomalies are present
in the tropical Pacific, where El Niño has developed and is expected to
strengthen further in coming months.
