Security policy and defense analyst Wolfgang Pustay said the trilateral defense
pact signed by Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan is currently "only on paper."
He noted that after recent Houthi attacks there has been no deployment of
Pakistani or Turkish forces to Saudi Arabia, and that Turkey has not mounted a
substantive response to Iranian missile strikes affecting Gulf states including
Saudi Arabia. Pustay said that without actual troop deployments or Pakistani and
Turkish personnel being affected by attacks on Saudi Arabia, the joint-defense
agreement will struggle to take effect.
