Responding to a Taiwan 'representative to Japan' claim that its national
standing had been deliberately belittled and that it lodged a 'stern protest', a
Chinese embassy spokesperson said Taiwan is not a country and the notion of
'national stature' does not apply. The spokesperson said attempts to seek
attention beyond one's means only embarrass themselves, reiterated there is one
China and Taiwan are an inalienable part of Chinese territory, and that the
People’s Republic of China is the sole legitimate government representing all
China. The spokesperson added that the United Nations refers to Taiwan as
'Taiwan Province, China'.
