Indonesia's copper exports are being delayed after the Gresik smelter halted
over the weekend due to a boiler leak; buyers were told the plant will pause
operations for several weeks for assessment and repairs. The outage adds
pressure to an already tight global copper market, with large flows to the
United States and increased shipments to China coinciding with LME copper
trading above $14,000/t for a fifth consecutive session. The Grasberg mine in
Papua, which was hit by a mudflow last year and has only partially resumed
output, is not expected to fully restart until around 2028.
