Ubai Abdi, former executive director of the Bissan Research and Development Center, stated that the recent escalation of attacks by Israeli settlers against Palestinians is supported by the government and closely related to the upcoming Israeli general election at the end of October. He pointed out that politicians in the current Israeli government are relaxing restrictions on settlers and even encouraging them to launch large-scale attacks in order to win voter support. Abdi also stated that settlers fear that the new cabinet after the change of government in October may no longer be lenient towards them, and therefore they are intensifying their actions, with the core objective of expelling Palestinians from their homes. He emphasized that Israel, through government policies and support for settler militias, has been trying to drive Palestinians off the land and turn them back into refugees.
