Typhoon Chan-hom, the 15th typhoon of the year, made landfall in the south
Ibaraki Prefecture at about 20:00 local time on the evening of the 11th, the
Japan Meteorological Agency said. The storm brought strong winds to the Kanto
region and caused injuries, fallen trees, widespread power outages and transport
disruptions. It is the first recorded typhoon landfall in Ibaraki since records
began in 1951.
