Henan’s flood-control command activated a level-2 emergency response at 08:00 on
Aug 12, the provincial emergency management department said. From 08:00 Aug 12
to 08:00 Aug 13 heavy rain is expected along the Huai River and across much of
northern Henan. Heavy downpours are forecast in parts of southern Jiaozuo,
central-eastern and eastern Xinxiang, eastern Luoyang, Zhengzhou, Kaifeng,
central-western Shangqiu, Pingdingshan, Xuchang, Luohe, central-western and
northern Zhoukou, northeastern Nanyang and northern Zhumadian. Localized
ultra-heavy rain (250–350mm at isolated points) is possible in southeastern
Zhengzhou, southern Kaifeng, central Pingdingshan, northern Xuchang and western
Zhoukou. Brief intense rainfall with hourly rates of 40–60mm (up to 80mm
locally) and convective thunderstorm winds of force 8–10 are also expected.
