The approximately 5,000 sailors and Marines aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln are still on a deployment that began on November 21, supporting U.S. military operations against Iran in the Middle East. The deployment, originally scheduled to end in May, has been extended, and no return date has been announced.
Sailors' families expressed concerns about their mental health, fatigue, and safety at an online meeting last week. The acting Secretary of the Navy told families that a team would be formed to replace Lincoln. However, officials cited operational security as the reason for not providing a specific timeline.
U.S. Democratic Senator Ed Blumenthal demanded that the Navy explain the situation on the USS Abraham Lincoln and detail the delays in the ship's planned deployment.
