Turkey's defense ministry said on Aug. 13 Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan will
establish a political and military cooperation mechanism under a joint defense
agreement signed last week and will deepen defence-industry cooperation. The
mechanism will cover the three countries' defense ministers, foreign ministers
and chiefs of staff; the pact envisages joint military exercises and cooperation
that may include joint production and technology sharing in the defense
industry. The Mecca joint defense agreement, signed on Aug. 7 in Saudi Arabia,
states an armed attack against any of the three will be treated as an attack on
all.
