Negotiations between the United States and Iran to end the war have stalled, with the terms of the interim peace agreement signed in June collapsing over control of the Strait of Hormuz. After Iran made war reparations a precondition for reopening the strait, Trump demanded compensation from Iran for what it claims are casualties. Iran has stipulated six conditions for a full reopening of the strait: no threats to Iran or insults to the Iranian nation, a permanent end to the war against Iran and its allies, lifting the U.S. naval blockade, payment of war damages, lifting of sanctions, and unfreezing of Iranian assets. Meanwhile, Iran says it is reaching a final agreement with Oman on demarcating a new shipping route through the strait between the two countries, while Trump claims the U.S. Navy has complete control of the waterway.
