Fitch said its sample of 1,300 US private credit borrowers recorded a 12-month rolling default rate of 6.1% in July, up from 6.0% in June and the highest since Fitch began tracking the series in August 2024. For the 300 private issuers Fitch rates for insurers, the 12-month default rate fell to 8.6% in July from 9.4% in June. Fitch logged three private credit defaults in July — one new borrower and two repeat defaulters — and 83 borrowers triggered 105 default events in the 12 months to July 2026.
