Mainland Chinese shares diverged in the morning session. By the midday close the
ChiNext Index was up 0.65% after intraday gains exceeding 1%; the Shanghai
Composite fell 0.21% after testing the 3,900 level; the Shenzhen Composite Index
rose 0.08%. Combined turnover on both boards exceeded 1.3 trillion yuan. More
than 3,100 stocks declined and several high-flyers fell.
Compute-hardware-related sectors led gains—fiber-optic, CPO, semiconductors,
lithography machines and telecom equipment—while food & beverage saw patchy
volatility, pharmaceuticals were active, rare-earth permanent magnets spiked
then pulled back, and power utilities and cinema chains weakened.
