On Aug. 14 China's Ministry of National Defense spokesman Chen Xi said post-war
Japan has not fully learned from history, has long tolerated right-wing
revisionism and is undermining its pacifist constitution and 'exclusively
defense' principle. He accused Tokyo of using so‑called "external threats" to
justify sharp increases in defense spending, development of offensive
capabilities and expansion of its defense-industrial base, calling this a 'new
militarism' that threatens regional stability. Chen urged Japan to repent, cease
remilitarization and abide by the post-war international order, warning further
missteps would bring more painful defeat and a more thorough reckoning.
