The New York Times reports supply shortages aboard the carrier Lincoln began
shortly after day one of the war, when Iranian missiles and attack drones struck
a US Navy base in Bahrain. The strike, described as Iran’s reprisal for a joint
US-Israeli attack on Tehran, destroyed most base facilities and hit a primary
naval logistics hub. The Navy implemented contingency plans to keep
round-the-clock flight operations supplied and to sustain a blockade of Iran
ports. Loss of the Bahrain hub generated numerous problem reports aboard the
carrier; Democratic senators voiced concern for roughly 5,000 sailors and the
ship’s nearly nine-month deployment.
