Construction workers found more than 50 suspected World War II-era unexploded
shells during excavation at the intersection of Grzybowska and Zelazna streets
in central Warsaw on the 13th. Bomb disposal teams attended on the 14th and
cleared the ordnance that afternoon; authorities imposed a cordon of roughly
400m, evacuated about 4,000 people from eight nearby buildings and closed the
area to pedestrians and vehicles. Two other WWII-era explosive finds were
reported in central Warsaw last week.
