South Korea’s industry ministry said on Saturday it had dismissed its chief
trade representative, without giving a reason. Yeo Han-koo, who had also served
as trade minister, traveled to Washington several times this year to discuss
tariffs, semiconductor-related measures and digital policy with US officials and
lawmakers. The ministry said personnel decisions for political appointees are a
presidential prerogative and that it will work to ensure current trade affairs
are not affected. No successor has been named.
