On Aug 16 local time, Hurricane Lala weakened to a tropical storm near Hawaii,
but heavy rain and strong winds may still trigger flooding, landslides and
hazardous marine conditions. Lala struck the southern coast of the Big Island as
a Category 1 hurricane on Aug 15 and was downgraded by the U.S. National Weather
Service. Hawaii’s governor said the storm caused at least one death.
