YONHAP reports Industry Minister Kim Jung-gwan said Seoul and Washington must resolve legacy issues in the $200bln portion of a $350bln investment package tied to bilateral tariff talks. Under last year’s deal Korea agreed to invest $350bln for the US to cut tariffs on Korean imports from 25% to 15%; $150bln is designated for shipbuilding cooperation and the remaining $200bln’s implementation is still under negotiation. Kim said officials had aimed to announce related projects in late August or early September, but working-level issues have surfaced as talks enter the final stage; both sides are still targeting that timetable. He added Korea continues to face ongoing US tariff pressure while multiple bilateral trade issues remain unresolved.
