DataVita has secured £300m (about $407m) from ING, ABN AMRO and other European
banks to expand an existing Scottish data center and build a new facility.
UK government guaranteed 80% of a £252m tranche provided by the two Dutch banks
and Banco Santander; the remainder is unsecured financing from the Scottish
National Investment Bank and Siemens Financial Services. Dell will relocate its
Scotland headquarters to the site. The investment is being cited as a key signal
of a revival for the UK’s AI growth zones under new Prime Minister Burnham; the
zones were a central plank of the previous Labor government’s AI policy under
Starmer.
