The MIIT lithium‑ion battery and similar products standards working group has
launched a baseline needle‑penetration testing program for sodium‑ion cells,
covering products across energy‑density tiers. The tests, which simulate
mechanical abuse to detect internal short‑circuit risk, will provide systematic
safety verification to help firms pre‑screen hazards, refine designs and support
unified industry standards as sodium‑ion products scale to higher energy density
and integration.
