Asian equities were set to open lower Wednesday after an overnight rout in US technology stocks and a rise in bond yields, oil and Middle East tensions prompted risk-off positioning. Japan, South Korea and Australia index futures were down at the open while US equity futures were largely flat. At Tuesday’s close the Nasdaq 100 fell 1.7% and the S&P 500 was down 0.7%, each marking a third straight session of declines; a semiconductor-stock benchmark slid about 5%. Treasures were little changed overall but the 10-year yield remained near its highest level since early 2025; the 30-year yield briefly rose to 5.34% before easing. US crude (WTI) rebounded above $85 as a US–Iran stalemate over control of the Strait of Hormuz raised supply-risk concerns.
