Aug. 19 — China’s Taiwan Affairs Office urged the Democratic Progressive Party
authorities to promptly remove unreasonable restrictions on cross‑strait air
transport to meet demand for normalizing direct passenger links. The office said
calls from Taiwan officials and private citizens for more direct routes reflect
strong public demand and noted a Taiwan civil aviation authority rejected a
charter application on the grounds it fell outside the scope of holiday
charters.
