Korea Financial Investment Association said on the 19th that as of the 18th
investor deposits at domestic securities firms stood at 104.755 tln won, up
4.0447 tln won from the previous trading day (14th) and above the 100 tln won
threshold. Absent new IPO subscription demand, a single-day rise of about 4 tln
won is unusually large. Margin loan (credit financing) balances rose 237 bln won
to 31.1045 tln won, the highest this month. Receivables from ultra-short-term
financing increased to 920.2 bln won from 867.0 bln won, while forced
liquidations tied to unpaid receivables amounted to 6.4 bln won, or 0.7% of
receivables. Market participants link the flows to recent KOSPI gains and say
rising deposits and leverage suggest retail investor sentiment may be gradually
recovering.
