Two people familiar with the matter said Samsung Electronics has raised prices
on some advanced foundry wafer orders by as much as 15% as AI-chip demand surges
and capacity tightens. The company increased July pricing for chips made on its
4nm (SF4) process; wafer prices for the 5nm (SF5) node rose 10–15% and 8nm
wafers climbed roughly 10%. Industry estimates show Samsung's foundry unit has
been loss-making since 2022; the price hikes mark a turnaround for the business.
Samsung declined to comment, saying it does not disclose operational details.
