Four Senate Democrats led by Chris Van Hollen have asked Fed Chair Kevin Warsh
to publicly disclose his communications with President Trump after the Wall
Street Journal reported multiple calls despite no entries on Warsh’s official
schedule. The senators said nondisclosure could create the impression the White
House is directing monetary policy and asked Warsh to confirm in writing whether
he has had any contact with Trump since taking office or to amend his schedule
to show such calls. Warsh did not directly answer Van Hollen last month. White
House NEC Director Kevin Hassett said in early August that Trump did not press
Warsh on rate decisions; Trump has said he spoke to Warsh only once briefly. By
contrast, former Fed Chair Jerome Powell documented and disclosed several calls
and face-to-face meetings with Trump.
