Tesla (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. and Tesla Motors (Beijing) Co., Ltd. have filed a
recall plan with SAMR under China’s defective auto recall rules covering certain
domestically produced and imported battery electric vehicles. When assisted
steering and the combined driver-assistance system are engaged, the current
attention-monitoring system may not alert drivers whose gaze is off-road, which
could increase collision risk. Tesla (Shanghai) will deploy a free OTA software
upgrade to affected vehicles to reduce that risk by adding in-cabin camera
monitoring to existing steering-torque checks and more promptly prompt drivers
to resume control and observe traffic. Owners can receive the update remotely;
vehicles that cannot be updated via OTA will be contacted through Tesla service
centers for recall repair to address the safety issue.
