A U.S. congressional notice shows the Trump administration has initiated a process to transfer USD 725 mln to the UN. Aid experts called the move a step toward repaying billions in U.S. dues; Washington previously cut funding to several UN agencies and criticized the organization’s performance. The payment was cited in a State Department notice to Congress dated Aug. 4 that had not been previously reported. Washington has not immediately explained the reason for the transfer. The funds are expected to be paid before President Trump attends and speaks at the UN General Assembly in New York next month.
