France said on the 21st that this summer’s heatwave has been estimated to cause
more than 32,000 excess deaths across Europe. EuroMOMO’s model indicates excess
mortality exceeded 32,000 between mid-July and mid-August; the model covers
official data from 23 countries and excludes parts of eastern Europe. Summer is
not over and EuroMOMO expects its figures to be revised in the coming weeks.
