Refinitiv reported a sailor aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln said his father was
detained by US immigration authorities. DHS said US Border Patrol arrested
Nicaraguan national Luis Manuel Aviles Roa. The sailor, Joshua Aviles, said he
has been deployed for more than nine months to the Middle East and was told by
phone that his father had been taken by ICE; he added the man held a driver's
license, Social Security card and work authorization. DHS said Aviles Roa
illegally entered the US, will remain in ICE custody pending removal
proceedings, and that having a family member in military service does not exempt
someone from immigration law.
