An Angus Reid Institute poll released on the 23rd found 76% of respondents
support the Canadian government withdrawing from Canada-US trade talks; 53% of
Conservative supporters backed withdrawal. About 62% said the government's plan
to impose reciprocal retaliatory tariffs on the US on Sept. 8 is appropriate.
Some 13% of employed respondents said they were very worried about job losses
from a Canada-US trade conflict, with another 25% expressing some concern.
Industry analysts have warned a full breakdown could trim Canadian GDP by about
0.4% and cost roughly 90,000 jobs.
