OpenAI's latest enterprise data, based on token output per active user, shows that as of June 2026, the top 10% of enterprises used AI 8.3 times more than the average enterprise, compared to only 2.6 times in January. The gap widened to 11.7 times in the IT industry, with leading companies' usage increasing 32.5 times compared to April 2025, while average enterprises only saw a 2.8-fold increase.
The key to this widening gap lies in the fact that leading companies have integrated AI into their internal data, tools, and repetitive workflows, enabling their proxy systems to continuously execute and iterate, resulting in accumulated usage. For the AI industry, computing power demand may initially concentrate on a few high-intensity customers before gradually spreading to other enterprises.
