After tariff talks collapsed, President Trump has repeatedly raised tariffs on
Canada and warned of severe consequences if Canada resists, even as senior US
officials seek to de-escalate and restart negotiations. Treasury Secretary
Bessent said the administration wants Canada back at the table for sincere
talks. Canadian Prime Minister Carney said a mutually beneficial agreement is
possible but Canada will only return once the US adopts an appropriate stance
toward Canadian industries. Vice President Vance said talks are ongoing and
urged Carney to demonstrate Canada will not take advantage and that trade policy
be fair.
