After tariff talks collapsed, President Trump has repeatedly raised tariffs on Canada and warned of severe consequences if Canada resists, even as senior US officials seek to de-escalate and restart negotiations. Treasury Secretary Bessent said the administration wants Canada back at the table for sincere talks. Canadian Prime Minister Carney said a mutually beneficial agreement is possible but Canada will only return once the US adopts an appropriate stance toward Canadian industries. Vice President Vance said talks are ongoing and urged Carney to demonstrate Canada will not take advantage and that trade policy be fair.

Markets had largely expected funding via increased T-bill issuance; a TGA drawdown would alter near-term supply and liquidity expectations. The TGA is the government’s checking account at the Fed, financed by tax receipts.

The order directs agencies to compile citizenship lists, prioritizes prosecutions of officials who send ballots to ineligible voters, and restrict USPS delivery of ballots to qualified voters.
