CNN published a letter in which two senior Democratic U.S. senators on Aug 24
asked the PENTAGON to investigate living conditions aboard multiple Navy
vessels, citing carriers USS Lincoln and USS Gerald R. Ford and destroyer USS
Benfold. The letter cites clogged toilets, a laundry-room fire, generally poor
habitability, reports of multiple personnel mental-health breakdowns including
attempted overboard jumps on the carriers, and last month’s four-day power loss
that left USS Benfold dead in the water in the South China Sea.
