Spain's government approved on Tuesday a bill to overhaul immigration and asylum
laws and align them with EU directives, Interior Minister Marlaska said after
the weekly cabinet meeting. The measures still require parliamentary approval.
The initiative follows a late‑July border surge when about 80,000 people crossed
from Morocco into the Spanish North African enclave Ceuta; most returned within
three days but several thousand remain, many sleeping rough. The reforms are
intended to speed asylum processing and strengthen Spain's security.
