MIIT planning director Yao Jun said on Aug. 26 the ministry will organize a traditional-industry rejuvenation program during China’s 15th Five-Year Plan period, prioritizing national standards, digital-intelligent and green technologies, and tighter environmental and safety institutional constraints to raise quality, brands and efficiency. The program will emphasize technology-led transformation: deepen manufacturing “new-type technological renovation” city pilots, accelerate equipment upgrades and model renewal, and promote retrofits that target quality and efficiency using digital and low‑carbon technologies to push intelligent, green and integrated development. MIIT identified petrochemicals and chemicals for accelerated replacement of obsolete units, greater use of digital and green tech to cut safety and environmental risks, and coordinated pollution and carbon reductions. The ministry also plans standards-driven and quality-upgrade actions to support the industrial upgrade.
