Iranian parliament speaker Ghalibaf told Iraq’s Supreme Judicial Council head
Faik Zhidan that Iran and Iraq have a key role in shaping regional order and
should deepen cooperation, particularly in the Persian Gulf. He said US efforts
to wage war on Iran were meant to topple the Iranian government and extend US
hegemony in West Asia and the Muslim world, but that US military and politics
efforts have failed and US economic measures will likewise fail. He described
the withdrawal of US-led coalition forces from Iraq as a historic achievement
for the Iraqi government and people and reiterated belief that Iran and Iraq can
play a decisive role in regional order.
