People familiar with the matter said the White House plans to announce on Monday a new round of most-favored-nation (MFN) drug-pricing agreements with several mid-sized biotech firms. Under the deals, companies would provide outpatient drug discounts to Medicaid so state-paid prices align with their overseas prices; states may opt in. In return, firms would be exempt from a Medicare pilot requiring similar discounts, and some talks include tariff relief. It is unclear which companies are involved or the likely savings. The administration has already reached similar agreements with 17 large drugmakers, including Pfizer and Eli Lilly. Researchers estimate that if the Medicaid pricing mechanism covered 82 high-priced branded drugs, states could save more than $8 billion a year.
