At about 10:30 a.m. on Aug. 26, a mudslide on the Nepal side caused major casualties and missing persons at Gyirong port, Gyirong County, Shigatse, Tibet. The Ministry of Emergency Management dispatched a working group to the scene, deployed 249 personnel from the national comprehensive fire rescue force and 325 engineering-rescue personnel and equipment from China Aneng, PowerChina and other units, and sent Xinglitong communications support and an aerial magnetic-detection system for on-site technical support. The National Disaster Reduction and Relief Committee and the Ministry of Emergency Management activated a national level-2 disaster response and, with the National Food and Strategic Reserves Administration, allocated 30,000 central relief items — tents, heaters, quilts, folding beds and moisture-proof mats — to support evacuate relocation and relief operations.
