At about 10:30 local time on Aug 26, a suspected avalanche on the Nepal side of
the Donglin Zangbu basin in Jilong County, Shigatse, Tibet, triggered a major
chain disaster that may have caused significant casualties. The Ministry of
Natural Resources initiated a Level II geological disaster defense response at
15:00 on Aug 26 and dispatched a working group to the site to coordinate rescue
operations and prevent secondary geological hazards.
