Icelanders vote on Saturday on whether to resume EU accession negotiations. A
Maskina poll commissioned by Visir published Wednesday shows 51.3% support
versus 48.7% opposition, a 2.6 percentage-point lead that has narrowed from a
6.2pp gap in June. An earlier Gallup poll had support and opposition tied at 46%
with 8% undecided. Iceland’s potential EU membership has long been divisive; the
applied government after the 2009 financial crisis but negotiations were
abandoned in 2013.
