At an Aug. 26 State Council Information Office briefing on launching the 15th Five-Year Plan, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology vice minister Xin Guobin said China’s new-energy vehicle (NEV) industry has strengthened international influence — exporting to more than 100 countries and cultivating several highly competitive leaders — but still faces prominent problems. He flagged persistent irrational competition, aggressive design innovations being fitted to vehicles without sufficient testing, and a small number of product-quality and autonomous-driving safety incidents that have drawn public attention. These issues, he said, cannot be ignored and must be tackled with greater force during the 15th Five-Year Plan period.
