MTN Group will form a joint venture, Africa Data Hub Holding, with Dubai
investor Tarik Al Ashram to develop AI data centers in Africa. Al Ashram will
invest via his investment company. MTN CEO Mupita said the JV will initially
deploy 150 MW of AI data-center capacity. The venture plans sites in Nigeria and
South Africa to process MTN workloads and lease capacity to hyperscalers,
corporations and governments. World Economic Forum data shows Africa accounts for
under 1% of global AI data-center compute.
