Canada and the US saw talks collapse at the 11-TH HOUR. The US has imposed 50%
tariffs on $20 billion of Canadian goods; Canada will levy equivalent
retaliatory tariffs from Sept. 8. An Angus Reid Institute survey shows Canadians
began curbing US purchases after the US tariff threat in July: 40% of grocery
shoppers and 39% of alcohol buyers say they now check country of origin and
largely choose Canadian or other non‑US products; 52% say they probably or
definitely will not buy US cars, 60% say they will not buy US liquor, and more
than 70% say they will not buy US eggs and dairy.
