The New York Times reports Meta Platforms CEO Mark Zuckerberg has publicly criticized rival Anthropic for seeking to centralize power and depicting the future as bleak, saying such dominance would shift the balance toward large institutions over individuals. At the same time, five people familiar with the matter say Meta has become a heavy user of Anthropic’s AI products and is now among its largest customers. Two of those people said Meta at one point internally expected annual spending on Anthropic models could reach as high as $10 billion; if realized, that would be a significant portion of Anthropic’s revenue. Anthropic projected in July that its annual revenue would exceed $65 billion.
