CHINA STATE PLANNER policy research deputy director Li Chao said at the agency's
August briefing that in 1H China's coal-fired power share fell below 50% for the
first time. The world's first coal-fired generating unit with generation thermal
efficiency above 50% has entered commercial operation in China; the agency tied
coal's share decline to this efficiency breakthrough. CHINA STATE PLANNER will
intensify a three-year coal-power energy-saving and carbon-reduction retrofit
campaign and aims to raise the proportion of coal plants meeting efficiency
benchmarks by 15 percentage points by end-2028.
