U.S. Senator Mark Kelly said that Trump is struggling to find a way to end the conflict with Iran. He said the American people are paying the price, with rising gasoline and food prices. The former Navy fighter pilot believes Trump faces very limited options: either send ground troops to further escalate the conflict, which could kill thousands of Americans; withdraw from the conflict altogether; or exert economic pressure while trying to rebuild alliances with European allies. He said that U.S.-EU relations have weakened over the past year and a half. "This is a crisis he created himself," Kelly said. He also said that Trump's insistence that he "knows everything better than anyone else" limits his options. Kelly said that dropping bombs and, in some cases, causing the deaths of "innocent Iranian children," "is not a good idea." However, he believes that "taking economic measures and rebuilding our alliances" is better than simply "escalating military action," and certainly better than sending troops to the ground.
